Franklin Clark

Franklin Clark (born August 2, 1801 in Wiscasset , Lincoln County , Massachusetts , †  August 24, 1874 in Brooklyn , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Franklin Clark was born in 1801 in Wiscasset, which was then still part of Massachusetts. The town has been in this state since Maine was founded in 1820. Clark attended the public schools in his home country and later worked in the timber industry and shipbuilding. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1847 he was a member of the Maine Senate .

In the congressional election of 1846, Clark was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Maine . There he took over from John D. McCrate on March 4, 1847 . By March 3, 1849, he completed a term in Congress . This was determined by the events and consequences of the Mexican-American War . After the war, large areas in the west and southwest of what is now the United States came under American administration.

After serving in the House of Representatives, Clark worked in the wood processing industry. He died in Brooklyn on August 24, 1874.
