The Landana amaranth ( Lagonosticta landanae ) is a species from the finch family. It is a relatively unexplored species of fine finch , about whose breeding behavior and voice nothing is known. The species is classified as not endangered by the IUCN . The city of Lândana in the Angola province of Cabinda was the inspiration for the name.
description
The Landana amaranth weighs between 9 and 11.5 grams. It is similar to the dark red amaranth , but differs from this species in the different color of its beak. In the Landana amaranth, the upper bill is bluish gray to purple in color. The lower beak, on the other hand, is wine red with a dark tip. The beak is blackish at the ridge. The eyes are dark brown. The eye ring is pale pink to greenish gray. The females are similar to the males, but are slightly more brown than these.
distribution and habitat
The distribution area of the Landana Amaranten stretches from western Angola to the border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The habitat are grass savannas and dry thorn bush as well as acacia savannas. He lives in pairs or in a family group. Occasionally it is associated with the rose amaranth . Its diet consists of small seeds that it picks up on the ground.
