LANDANA (also Landana or Cacongo ) is a city in which to Angola belonging exclave of Cabinda . The city is the capital of the district of Cacongo . The Landana amaranth bird is named after the place.
history
Under the Portuguese colonial administration , the place was called Vila Guilherme Capelo , after the Portuguese general and governor of Angola Guilherme Augusto de Brito Capelo (1839-1926). Since 1941 the small town ( Vila ) was the seat of a district. After Angola's independence in 1975, the place dropped its Portuguese place name and has since borne its current name.
economy
The Chevron Group produces oil in the Tombua Landana field in the offshore sea off Lândana. In addition, tourism is gaining in importance, especially the beaches of Lândana.
Sculptures
The local sculptures of the Bakongo people are internationally known . They are made from iron, ivory or wood.
