Cacongo is a district on the Atlantic Ocean in about Angola belonging exclave of Cabinda . The Lagoa Massabi lagoon is located in Cacongo County.

history

In 1941 the Portuguese colonial power created the district with its seat in Vila Guilherme Capelo. After Angola's independence, to which Cabinda now belonged, the place was renamed Lândana, and the district was given the name Cacongo, derived from the Bakongo ethnic group who lived here .

Attack on January 8, 2010

On January 8, 2010, two days before the start of the 2010 African Cup , the FLEC carried out a terrorist attack on the team bus of the Togolese national soccer team in the municipality of Cacongo, near the border with the Republic of the Congo , as the team was on their way to their first game was at the Estádio Nacional de Chiazi in Cabinda. She killed three members of the Togolese delegation, including assistant coach Améleté Abalo , and injured other players and coaches. Togo then did not take part in the African Championship.
