The Lagoa Massabi or Lagoa Chicamba is a U-shaped beach lake or lagoon in the northernmost part of the coast of the Angolan exclave Cabinda near the border with the Republic of Congo .
The eponymous city of Chicamba , also known as Massabi , is about five kilometers north of the border. The lake with a rainy flood outlet on the spit of the compensation coast on the Atlantic has a largest north-south extension of eight kilometers and measures around ten kilometers in an east-west direction. The lake, which is rich in fish, is surrounded by tropical rainforest, which is said to be home to boa snakes and parrots as well as gorillas . Three ethnic groups are represented at the lake: in the north around Chicamba the Bavili , on the coast in the west to the southern town Landana the Bakoki and in the center and in the east the Balili , all members of the Bakongo .
The connecting road from the Congo border to the provincial capital Cabinda runs on the east side of the lake, whose population is considered to be particularly vigorous in promoting Cabinda's independence. On January 8, 2010, about 10 km from the Congo border, there was an attack by rebels from a faction of the FLEC on a bus belonging to the Togolese national football team .
