Bohumil Durdis
Bohumil Durdis (born March 1, 1903 in Prague ; † unknown) was a Czech weightlifter . He won at the 1924 Olympics in Paris a bronze medal in weightlifting at lightweight .
Career
Bohumil "Boža" Durdis started lifting weights at ČAK Královské Vinohrady after the First World War . He later moved to AFK Vršovice .
In 1921 he finished 3rd in the Czechoslovak championship in four-way combat in the lightweight behind Wagner, Pilsen and Matejczik, Prague. In 1922 he was the first Czechoslovak champion in the same weight class.
In 1923 he had his first major success at an international championship. At the World Championships in Vienna in the lightweight four-way battle with 347.5 (75-80-75-117.5) behind Rudolf Edinger from Austria and Heinrich Baumann from Germany, he finished 3rd.
In 1924 he was again Czechoslovakian champion and qualified for participation in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. He achieved there in the pentathlon in the lightweight 425 kg (70-82.5-72.5-90-110). With this performance he fought behind Edmond Decottignies , France , 440 kg (70-92.5-77.5-85-115) and Anton Zwerina , Austria, 427.5 kg (75-80-72.5-82, 5-112.5) the Olympic bronze medal. He was the first weightlifter to win an Olympic medal for Czechoslovakia.
In 1925 Bohumil Durdis was Czechoslovakian middleweight champion. In the years 1925 to 1927 he could no longer take part in any world or European championships because simply none took place. In 1926 and 1927, however, he was part of a Prague team that fought friendship battles against Vienna. In 1926 he achieved 475 kg (75-97.5-85-97.5-120) in the pentathlon, but lost to Hans Haas , who weighed 482.5 kg (75-100-82.5-100-125 ) came. In 1927 Durdis reached 440 kg (70-85-80-85-120) in the pentathlon, Haas lifted 475 kg (75-95-85-95-125). These achievements by Durdis and Haas, who also became Olympic lightweight champions in 1928 , were absolute world-class achievements at the time.
At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 Bohumil Durdis was not at the start.
