Dmitri Wladimirowitsch Berestow ( Russian Дмитрий Владимирович Берестов ; born June 13, 1980 in Moscow , Russia ) is a Russian weightlifter in the class up to 105 kg.

Career

Internationally, Berestow first drew attention to himself at the 2004 European Championships, when he won two silver medals in pushing and a duel. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he surprisingly won the gold medal in the class up to 105 kg due to the relatively weak field of participants. After that, he played only a few competitions due to various injuries until he was convicted of doping in the summer of 2006 and was banned from competitions for two years. At the 2008 European Championships in Italy , Berestov's suspension expired, and despite only two valid attempts, he won gold in the duel and in the snatch, as well as bronze in the jerk. Due to an injury, however, he was unable to take part in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .
