Andrej Aramnau ( Belarusian Андрэй Мікалаевіч Арамнаў , Russian Андрей Николаевич Арамнов / Andrei Nikolajewitsch Aramnov; born April 17, 1988 in Baryssau ) is a Belarusian weightlifter in the world up to and including 105 and currently in the two-pound class.

Career

Aramnaus first international success was the silver medal at the Junior World Championships 2006 in the class up to 94 kg with a duel result of 393 kg behind Ilya Ilyin .

A year later he won the Junior World Championships, as well as the World Championships in the class up to 105 kg, with 407 and 423 kg.

His greatest success so far was winning the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing in the class up to 105 kg, where he set several records.

In 2008 Aramnau was voted Sportsman of the Year in Belarus.

After Aramnau was noticed for the second time in March 2009 by drink-driving, his sports scholarship of $ 5,000 a month was canceled and he was banned from all competitions for two years. However, if you win the 2009 World Championships again, there is a possibility that the Belarusian government will renew the scholarship.

In 2010 Aramnau joined the European Championship in his own country as a favorite for the title. With 420.0 kg (195.0 / 225.0 kg) he confirmed this role and won ahead of Dmitri Klokow with 409.0 kg and Vladimir Smortschkow with 408.0 kg. In the snatch, Aramnau entered the competition with 195.0 kg, which immediately meant gold, and then failed twice because of the world record load of 201.0 kg. In pushing he first secured the title in the duel with 220.0 kg and after Klokows 224.0 kg with 225.0 kg also got gold in the push. However, Aramnau's doping test, as well as that of two of his compatriots, came back positive, whereupon he lost his medals and was disqualified. He was banned for six months. Klokow and Smortschkow shared his European championship title. After his suspension, he won bronze at the 2014 European Championships .
