Nurcan Taylan

Nurcan Taylan (born October 29, 1983 in Mamak / Ankara ) is a Turkish weightlifter .

Career

She was born in Mamak as the third child. Her family is originally from Hafik in Sivas Province .

Taylan was discovered at the age of eleven by Mehmet Üstündağ , who later also became her coach.

Only 1.52 m tall, she broke two world and five Olympic records in the weight class up to 48 kg at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . Nurcan Taylan is the first Turkish woman to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

Taylan is the European weightlifting champion, she has set six European and two world records, on September 17, 2010 she improved the world record in pushing in the 48 kg class to 121.0 kg.

doping

In October 2011 Nurcan Taylan was banned from the International Weightlifting Federation (IMF) for four years as a repeated doping offender. She was therefore unable to take part in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . This ban was later reduced to two years. In 2016, the International Olympic Committee also deleted all of Taylan's ratings that she had achieved at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , as the follow-up tests on the samples here also found her to be doping.
