Hafik (before 1926 Koçhisar ) is a town and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Central Anatolian province of Sivas . The city is located about 37 kilometers by road in an east-northeast direction from the provincial capital Sivas . The place received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1873 .

The district of Hafik is located in the north of the province and borders in the west on the central district ( Merkez ) of the capital Sivas, in the north on the district Almus (province Tokat ), in the northeast on the Keis Doğanşar , in the east and south on the district Zara .

The D200 ( E 88 ) trunk road crosses the district in an east-west direction.

In addition to the district town (2018: 30.64% of the district's population), the district also includes 74 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 94 residents. The population ranges from 344 ( Düzyayla ) to 16 ( Evci ), with 32 villages having more than 94 inhabitants (= average). The district has the lowest population density of all 17 districts in the province (5.7 inhabitants per km²).
