İmranlı ( Kurdish : Maciran) is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Sivas . İmranlı is located 104 kilometers east of Sivas . According to the city seal, the place received the status of a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1948 .

The former name of the city was Maciran . But after many immigrants came from the Caucasus , the name of the city was changed to Hamitabat . In 1911 the city was named Ümraniye and was part of the Zara district. It was not until 1948 that İmranlı was spun off and made a separate district.

The district İmranlı has exactly 100 villages ( Köy ) with a population of 5,245 people in addition to the district town . An average of 52 inhabitants live in each village, which is the lowest of all 17 districts in the province. The most important villages in the district are Cogi Baba and Karacaören, while Türkkeşlik has the most inhabitants (395). Three villages, each with nine inhabitants, are the poorest in population in the entire province.

Every year on the first weekend of July, the Cogi Baba Alevi Festival takes place in Cogi Baba , where many artists such as Gülcihan Koç, Musa Eroğlu and Ali Cevat Çiftçi take part.

The Alevi singer Hasret Gültekin was born in the village of Han . He died on July 2, 1993 in the Sivas arson attack .
