His opponents for the title Sergei Syrzow and Akakios Kachiasvilis thus led after the break with 17.5 kg and 5 kg respectively. Wołczaniecki started pushing with a valid 220.0 kg and then waited. After the remaining athletes failed to surpass Wołczaniecki's 392.5 kg and Syrzow had finished the push with 222.5 kg, Wołczaniecki increased to 232.5 kg to surpass Syrzow's 412.5 kg. However, he failed twice because of this load and thus won bronze behind Kachiasvilis, who set the world record with 235.0 kg in the last attempt , and Syrzow with 412.5 kg each.

Wołczaniecki had his last start in 1993 at the European Championships in Sofia . Here he started after changing the weight classes in the middle- heavy weight up to 91 kg and came in second with 390.0 kg (170.0 / 220.0 kg) behind Kachiasvilis and in front of Iwan Chakarow , who also scored 390.0 kg, but was heavier .
