Joe Dube (born February 15, 1944 in Altha , Florida ) is a retired American weightlifter.

Career

As a boy, Joe Dube was enthusiastic about the well-known American weightlifters Paul Anderson , Charles Vinci and Isaac Berger as well as the bodybuilders Reg Park and Bill Pearl and decided with his three brothers to emulate these successful athletes. In 1958 he started bodybuilding and weightlifting . His first teacher was his older brother Virgil. After finishing school he became a member of the York Barbell Club. There the coaches Dick Smith and Walter Imahara took care of him. Joe made great progress especially in weightlifting and in 1966 he surpassed the 500 kg limit in the Olympic three-way battle for the first time. In the course of his career he became world champion and won an Olympic medal, but he never managed to become American champion. Even in the days of his peak he was beaten by Bob Bednarski and Ken Patera . But the 1969 World Cup victory outshone everything. In 1972 Joe retired from weightlifting, but started a comeback from 1979 to 1982, but could no longer build on his heyday.

Joe Dube worked from 1962 to 1996 for a large insurance agency in Jacksonville / Florida . Now retired, he now enjoys his life and indulges in his hobbies of painting, horse riding and motorcycling and takes part in the big biker meeting in Daytona Beach / Florida every year .
