Jean Debuf

Jean Debuf (born May 31, 1924 in Bousbecque , † October 6, 2010 ) was a French weightlifter .

Career

As a teenager, Jean Debuf enjoyed playing football and athletics. It wasn't until 1943 that he started lifting weights. He made good progress and in 1945 won the French junior heavyweight championship with 290 kg in the Olympic three-way battle. In 1947 he was second winner behind Henry Ferrari at French championships with 322.5 kg. In 1948 he won the French championship for the first time with 352.5 kg in the light heavyweight division and represented France at the Olympic Games in London , where he took 4th place in the light heavyweight division with 370 kg. By 1956 he competed in many international championships, won an Olympic medal and three European championship titles.

After finishing his active career, he was President of the French Weightlifting Association for several years.
