Raymond Herbaux

Raymond Herbaux (born October 22, 1919 in Wazemmes, † March 21, 1989 in Lille ) was a French weightlifter .

Career

Raymond Herbaux came from a working-class family in northern France. In his youth he practiced athletics and was able to win many prizes in decathlon , shot put and discus throwing from 1934 . Later he began in Lille with the weightlifting and launched in 1942 for the first time at the French championships. After the Second World War he was able to take part in international championships. His greatest success was winning the Middle Heavyweight Championship in Milan in 1951 .

Raymond Herbaux was a teacher in schools in Lille and made great contributions to the education of the young. He received the Knight's Cross of the Legion of Honor from the French state.

  • 1953, 10th place ( 6th place ), WM + EM in Stockholm , S, with 380 kg, winner: Doug Hepburn , Canada , 467.5 kg ahead of John Davis, 457.5 kg;
  • 1954, 10th place ( 5th place ), WM + EM in Vienna , Ms, with 362.5 kg, winner: Arkadi Vorobjow , USSR, 460 kg ahead of Dave Sheppard , USA, 440 kg;
  • 1955, 3rd place , Mediterranean Games in Barcelona , S, with 377.5 (122.5, 112.5, 142.5) kg, behind Alberto Pigaiani , Italy , 422.5 (137.5, 125.0, 160.0) kg, Mohamed Ahmed Gaessa, Egypt , 395 (125.0, 120.0, 150.0) kg;
  • 1955, 17th place ( 13th place ), WM + EM in Munich , Ms, with 365 kg, winner: Vorobjow, 455 kg ahead of Clyde Emrich , USA, 427.5 kg.
