Ermanno Pignatti

Ermanno Pignatti (born August 8, 1921 in Modena , † October 31, 1995 ) was an Italian weightlifter .

Career

Ermanno Pignatti was a police officer and started lifting weights at "Sportiva" Modena. Later he moved to Milan and became a member of the "Fiamme d'Oro" sports club. His coach there was Primo Ferrari. Ermanno was a late starter. His first successes as a weight lifter did not show up until he was 30 years old. But he was still very successful and, as the high point of his career, won an Olympic bronze medal in the middleweight division in Melbourne in 1956 , after having become the European lightweight champion in 1951. After completing his active career, he wrote a textbook on weightlifting entitled "Modern Weightlifting." In his honor the Italian Weightlifting Association organizes the "Trofeo Internationale Ermanno Pignatti" every year.
