Jan Bochenek (born September 20, 1931 in Wołczkowo near Stanisławów ; † November 2, 2011 in Łódź ) was a Polish weightlifter .

Career

Jan Bochenek grew up in Warsaw and started lifting weights as a teenager . After being drafted into the army, he made good progress and soon started at the Polish championships. He was a member of Legia Warsaw and was trained by Klemens Roguski and Augustyn Dziedzic . While Polish weightlifting practically did not exist at the beginning of the 1950s, the political system of that time soon created such good conditions that Polish weightlifters reached the expanded world elite within five years. Jan Bochenek also benefited greatly from this system, as he won a middleweight medal at the European Championships in Helsinki as early as 1956. By 1962 he was among the world's top middle and lightweight weights.

Jan Bochenek was an officer in the Polish armed forces .
