Norbert Wojciech Ozimek (born January 24, 1945 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish weightlifter.

Career

Norbert Ozimek grew up in Warsaw and started athletics as a teenager . In 1960 he set a Polish youth record in his age group in the long jump with 6.30 m. When, after the Olympic Games in 1960, the well-known trainer August Dziedzic called on young people to come to weightlifting, he got in touch and began to train with weights at the University of Physical Education in Warsaw. Under August Dziedzic he developed very quickly. In 1962 he, meanwhile a member of Legia Warsaw , was already Polish junior champion in the middleweight division with 320 kg in the three-way fight and in 1963 in the light heavyweight division with 370 kg. In 1964 he already increased to 440 kg, but was not taken to the Olympic Games in Tokyo . But in 1965 he made his first international assignment and in the same year he became world champion in Tehran . Until 1973 he was always among the best in the world and won two Olympic medals.

Norbert Ozimek completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith, studied engineering at a polytechnic in Warsaw and also trained as a trainer. He is still working as a weightlifting trainer in a Warsaw club.
