Alexander Kidjajew ( Russian Александр Кидяев , scientific transliteration Aleksandr Kidjaev ; born April 25, 1940 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet weightlifter .

Career

The Ukrainian Alexander Kidjajew started lifting weights in 1959. After initial successes in the junior division and on a regional level, he won the Soviet lightweight heavyweight championship for the first time in 1965, starting for "Avangard" Lugansk . In the same year he was also European light heavyweight champion at the European Championships in Sofia , but surprisingly suffered a defeat at the World Championships in Tehran by the 20-year-old Poland Norbert Ozimek . At the 1970 World Championships in Columbus / USA , the second he competed, he had bad luck with 3 unsuccessful attempts to press and remained unplaced. In the course of his long career, however, he achieved many great victories and excellent placements against tough competition. In Jaan Talts and David Rigert, however, he had two indomitable opponents in his own country in the middle-heavyweight class, the class in which he started in 1967. He was therefore unable to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in 1968 or 1972.
