Boris Pavlov ( Russian Борис Павлов , scientific transliteration Boris Pavlov ; born October 18, 1947 in Charkow ; † unknown) was a Soviet weightlifter .

Career

Boris Pavlov started lifting weights in 1965 . After initial success, Mustafa Jagly-Ogly , a former weightlifter himself, became his trainer. Boris made good progress with him. At the 1970 Grand Prix of the USSR in Minsk , starting for "Spartak" Donetsk , he became known for the first time on an international level for his good performance. In 1969 he had already achieved his first light heavyweight world record with a push of 191 kg (up to 82.5 kg body weight at that time). In 1971 he became world champion and in 1972 European champion in the same weight class. Together with Valery Schari , he was also used at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . Both athletes failed in the push when neither made a valid attempt and had to retire unplaced. While Valery Shari made up for the 1976 Olympic victory, Boris Pavlov's international career in Munich was over. His compatriots Vladimir Ryschenkow , Valeri Schari and Gennady Ivanchenko blocked his way to further international starts.
