Mustafa Jagly-Ogly ( Russian Мустафа Яглы-Оглы ; * 1934 ) is a former Soviet weightlifter from Ukraine .

Career

Mustafa Jagly-Ogly was a railway employee from Kharkiv who started lifting weights at "Lokomotive" Kharkiv in the early 1950s. In the mid-1950s he had reached the top Soviet league, which at the time was equivalent to reaching the top of the world when he finished 3rd in the middleweight division at the 1955 Soviet championships. Mustafa initially lifted middleweight (at that time up to 75 kg body weight), but later switched to the lightweight (then up to 67.5 kg body weight), as he believed because of the better chances. But it was very difficult for him to reach the top in both weight classes in the Soviet Union because the competition was simply too strong. After all, he was European Champion in Katowice in 1957 and Vice European Champion in Milan in 1960 .

After finishing his active career, Mustafa Jagly-Ogly was a very successful trainer of some top Soviet athletes.
