Marian Zieliński

Marian Zieliński (born December 24, 1929 in Chełm ; † October 13, 2005 in Warsaw ) was a Polish weightlifter .

Career

Marian Zieliński attended a lyceum in Warsaw and then joined the army. There he began lifting weights in 1950 at the age of 21. It was relatively light and only started at featherweight (up to 60 kg body weight) and later grew into lightweight (up to 67.5 kg body weight). The Polish national coach Klemens Roguski noticed him because of his good performances in regional competitions . In the next few years he looked after Zieliński who was delegated to the WKS Legia Warsaw association. In addition to Roguski, the coaches Augustyn Dziedzic , Josef Stychynski and Karol Czarkowski also made great contributions to Zieliński's development. He was twice world champion, three times European champion and won three Olympic medals. His duels with his Polish compatriot Waldemar Baszanowski were outstanding . The captain in the Polish army, who was active until he was 39 years old, was married to Jadwiga Nientarowicz and had 2 sons and a daughter.
