Jan Czepułkowski

Jan Czepułkowski (born July 17, 1930 in Mołodeczno , † January 26, 2016 in Warsaw ) was a Polish weightlifter.

Career

Czepułkowski grew up in an area that belonged to Poland until 1939 and was then annexed by the USSR . After 1945 he moved to Olsztyn . There he started weightlifting in 1951. He later went to Warsaw and developed into a Polish top lifter under coach August Dziedzic. His most successful year was 1957, when he became vice European champion and third in the world championship in lightweight (then up to 67.5 kg body weight). Towards the end of the 1950s, he was replaced in his weight class, the lightweight, by the world-class lifters Marian Zieliński and Waldemar Baszanowski . He then ended his career as an active weightlifter in 1960. After studying sports, he became a lecturer at the trainer academy in Warsaw.

  • 1953, 2nd place, Le, with 237.5 kg, behind J. Fus, 290 kg and in front of B. Wojcik, 235 kg;
  • 1954, 1st place, Le, with 325 kg, ahead of Czekaliński, 312.5 kg and B. Stawicki, 300 kg;
  • 1955, 1st place, Le, with 325 kg, before August Dziedzic, 312.5 kg and Stawicki, 310 kg;
  • 1956, 2nd place, Le, with 332.5 kg behind Dziedzic, 332.5 kg and in front of Stawicki, 315 kg;
  • 1958, 1st place, Wed, with 355 kg, ahead of M. Kostrzewski, 325 kg and K. Stalmach, 322.5 kg
