Josef Tauchner

Josef Tauchner (born February 10, 1929 St. Peter , Linz ) is a former Austrian weightlifter.

Josef Tauchner was the first Austrian weightlifter to advance to the international top class after the Second World War . The Viennese continued the great tradition of Austrian top athletes in the lightweight class, which ranged from Franz Zwerina to Hans Haas to Robert Fein . Josef Tauchner, who started weightlifting in 1947, won six medals at World and European Championships from 1951 onwards.

But he was denied winning an Olympic medal. After the World Championships in 1961 in his hometown of Vienna , he ended his international career, in the course of which he had won all Austrian records in the lightweight and replaced the Olympic champion Robert Fein as the record holder.
