Yevgeny Kazura ( Russian Евгений Кацура ; * 1937 , † March 9, 1967 ) was a Soviet weightlifter .

Career

Yevgeny Kazura started lifting weights as a teenager after doing gymnastics as a boy. Under the guidance of his trainer Alexander Grigoryev, he made rapid progress. Since 1961 he belonged to the world elite, first in the featherweight (up to 60 kg body weight) and then in the lightweight (up to 67.5 kg body weight). He became world and European champion, but was not used in the 1964 Olympic Games.

Yevgeny Kazura was an officer in the Soviet Army. In March 1967, while drunk, he caused a fatal traffic accident in his car. He probably couldn't cope with this fact because he committed suicide on March 9, 1967.
