Karl Jansen (born May 28, 1908 in Eickel or Wanne ; † November 14, 1961 ) was a German weightlifter.

Career

Karl Jansen grew up in Wanne-Eickel and joined the local heavy athletics club. He also achieved initial successes in West Germany, but his breakthrough only came when, at the age of 26, he joined the VKSA 1888 Essen in 1934 . There, provided with valuable training tips from Adolf Wagner (weightlifter) and Karl Bierwirth , he made the leap into world class within months. His first international assignment in Paris in 1935 earned him the title of European Champion. Winning an Olympic medal in Berlin in 1936 was the high point of his career. He made himself available to his club, with which he was German team champion several times, as an active weightlifter until he was 45 years old.

He found his final resting place in the southwest cemetery in Essen .
