Li Hongli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Li Hongli ( Chinese  李宏利 , Pinyin Lǐ Hónglì , born December 26, 1980 in Jiangmen , Guangdong Province , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese weightlifter . He won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games and was world champion in 2005 , both in the middleweight division.

Career

Li Hongli started lifting weights at Jiangmen Sports School when he was 10 years old. In 1993 he was accepted into the Guangdong Provincial Sports College and in 1994 also into the Guangdong Provincial Team. In 2002 he was accepted into the Chinese men's national team. There he was trained by Chen Wenbin, one of the most experienced Chinese weightlifting trainers.

However, he was successful before that. In 1999 he was junior middleweight world champion in Savannah and there already managed 352.5 kg (162.5-190) in a duel. He was used in the same year at the World Championships for Seniors in Athens and came there in the middleweight to 345 kg (160-185), which he took 15th place in a heavily occupied field. The winner was Sayed Saelem Nayef from Qatar , which was the Bulgarian Petar Tanew, who reached 370 kg (165-205).

In 2000 Li Hongli started at the Asian Championship in Osaka . But there he had to pay the hardship that many weightlifters had to pay who chose their starting weight too high in one discipline. He did not manage 160 kg three times in the snap and thus did not achieve a duel result, which is why he remained unplaced. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he was not used. In 2001 he was the first Chinese middleweight champion (duel). He only won another Chinese championship title in a duel in 2005.

At the Asian Games in Busan in 2002 , Li Hongli set a new world record in the middleweight division with 173 kg. In pushing he made three failed attempts at the enormously high initial weight of 197.5 kg, so that he again remained unplaced in this championship without a duel result. At the World Championships that year in Warsaw he achieved 365 kg (172.5–192.5) in a duel. This result was only enough for 4th place behind Georgi Markow from Bulgaria , 370 kg, Oleg Perepetschenow , Russia , 367.5 kg and the like. Mohamed Hossein Barkah, Iran , 365 kg.

In 2003 Li Hongli won his first duel medal at a world championship with third place at the world championships in Vancouver . He was satisfied with 352.5 kg (162.5–190), with which he weighed 357.5 kg and the like behind Mohammad Nejad Falahati, Iran. Reyhan Arabacioglu , Turkey , 355 kg, stayed. At the Asian Championships in Almaty in 2004 , he finished second with 360 kg (165-195) in a duel behind Sergei Filimonov from Kazakhstan , 370 kg, in front of Zhan Xugang, China, 350 kg. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he was again not used.

In 2005 Li Hongli finally won a title win in a duel at a world championship in Doha . He became world champion in Doha with 361 kg (165-196) and won with this performance superior to Sebastian Dogariu from Romania , who came to 353 kg. In 2006 he won the Asian Games in Doha in the middleweight division with 361 kg (165-196) in front of the South Korean Lee Jeong-jae, 341 kg. However, he was unable to defend his world title in 2006 in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic. He achieved there 359 kg (167-192) and came behind Taner Sagir from Turkey, who achieved 361 kg in 2nd place.

In 2007, Li Hongli again achieved 361 kg (166–195) at the world championship in Chiangmai / Thailand in the middleweight division, placing 363 kg a.o. behind the surprise winner Iwan Stoitschow , Bulgaria. Geworg Dawtjan from Armenia , 362 kg, 3rd place. Although, as can be seen from the results of 2006 and 2007, he stagnated in his performance, Li Hongli was also used at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . He achieved 366 kg there (168-198) and already looked like the sure Olympic champion , because after the break he was 5 kg in front of his most dangerous rival Sa Jae-Hyouk from South Korea . However, he managed 5 kg more than Li in pushing with 203 kg and caught it because he was a little lighter than Li in body weight. Li Hongli therefore had to be satisfied with the silver medal .

After 2008, Li Hongli has not competed in any other international championships. However, his international weightlifting career, which spanned over 10 years, was unusually long for a Chinese weightlifter.
