Christine Girard (born January 3, 1985 in Elliot Lake , Ontario ) is a Canadian weightlifter from Rouyn-Noranda .

Career

Girard starts in the weight class up to 63 kg body weight, in 2009 and 2010 also in the 69 kg class. In 2006 she won silver at the Commonwealth Games with a duel of 212 kg, with the 121 kg achieved in the push being the best result in this class. Girard also won silver at the 2007 Pan American Games . At the 2007 World Championships , she was eighth with 221 kg (95 kg + 126 kg).

An increase in performance in snatching to 102 kg brought her third place at the 2008 Summer Olympics with a duel of 228 kg and 126 kg in pushing, after Irina Nekrasova was convicted of doping in 2016. In 2010 she won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the 69 kg class with 235 kg (105 kg + 130 kg). She was then able to confirm this level of performance achieved in the 69 kg class in the 63 kg class and improve it even further in the push. At the Olympic Summer Games in London in 2012 Girard won the silver medal in the class up to 63 kg with 236 kg (103 kg + 133 kg), due to some doping cases she is now awarded the gold medal retrospectively. She achieved her best duel performance with 238 kg (105 kg + 133 kg) at the 2011 World Championships.

Girard holds all Canadian records in the 63 kg class, the Commonwealth Games records in snatch and duel scoring and the Pan American Games records in snatch and duel scoring (as of July 2012).

Christine Girard, who comes from a weightlifting family, is trained by Walter Bailey, to whom she has been married since June 11, 2011. Her older sister Caroline took 6th place at the 1st University World Championships in 2008 with 192 kg (84 kg + 108 kg) and 12th place at the 2009 World Championships with 207 kg (91 kg + 116 kg), each in the 75 kg class.
