Lists on the subject |
The KAC PDW is a personal defense weapon from the American company Knight's Armament Company . The PDW, along with the new 6 × 35 mm cartridge , was presented to the public for the first time in 2006 at the NDIA Small Arms Symposium in Albuquerque.
So far (as of July 2013) the status of the PDW is unknown, but it can be assumed that it is still in the prototype or pre-series stage. Alternatively, KAC offers a heavily modified PDW with the designation SR-635 based on the 5.56 mm version of the AR-15 , which should already offer the use and thus the advantages of the special KAC PDW ammunition.
development
Right from the start, the PDW was designed entirely on the computer ( CAD ) around the 6 × 35 mm cartridge . With this, KAC wanted to avoid various problems that arise when combining too small or too large a caliber in a weapon with a short barrel. If the caliber is too small, the effective firing range and penetration power is low, whereas the shooter is hindered by a strong recoil and large muzzle flash with larger calibers .
KAC made sure that the controls, as they are on the AR-15 / M4 , are also used on the PDW. With the PDW, KAC wants to create a replacement for the HK MP5 or for short- barreled 5.56 mm weapons ( CQC variants ).
technology
The PDW has a skeletonized folding stock and a Picatinny rail on top of the weapon housing with an open sight . The two most unusual features of the PDW are likely to be the barrel with uniform, round dents and the cylindrical flash hider with the square incisions.
The weapon has an effective range of 300 meters.
ammunition
The KAC PDW uses the special caliber 6 × 35 mm from the manufacturer Hornady. The ammunition allowed, among other things, a shortening of the grip and the magazine well as well as generally smaller magazines compared to the M4 .
