Rumen Alexandrow (born June 26, 1960 ) is a former Bulgarian weightlifter .

Athletic career

The 1978 World Championships in Gettysburg were Alexandrow's first international appearance. In the light heavyweight up to 82.5 kg, he achieved 317.5 kg (142.5 / 175.0 kg) and thus finished 10th. The winner was Jurik Wardanjan with 377.5 kg.

In 1980, Alexandrov started at the European Championships in Belgrade , Serbia , where he lifted 390.0 kg (175.0 / 215.0 kg) in a duel in the middle-heavy weight category up to 90 kg. This meant first place in front of the two Soviet lifters Walery Schary and Gennadi Bessonow , each with 382.5 kg.

At the Olympic Games in Moscow he could not call this performance and placed with 375.0 kg (170.0 / 205.0 kg) in a duel behind Péter Baczakó with 377.5 kg and in front of Frank Mantek with 370.0 kg second place. Since the 1980 Olympic Games also meant the world championships for that year, Alexandrov also won the runner-up in the duel and the snatch, as well as bronze in the pushing.
