Andreas Stadler (born July 31, 1896 in Vienna , † February 14, 1941 ) was an Austrian weightlifter . He won the silver medal in featherweight pentathlon at the 1924 Paris Olympics .

Career

Andreas Stadler began lifting weights as a teenager in Vienna. At first he belonged to the athletes 'club "Hannibal" Vienna and then switched to the "Lohnfuhrwerker" athletes' club in Vienna. From 1920 he was one of the best Austrian weightlifters and soon also one of the best weightlifters in the world in his weight class, the featherweight. His specialty was two-armed pushing. In this discipline he set five world records in featherweight between 1922 and 1926. His best performance was 120 kg, which he hit in 1926.

His international success began in 1922. In that year Andreas Stadler won the featherweight pentathlon at the German Fighting Games in Berlin, which consisted of one-armed tearing, one-armed thrusting, two-armed tearing, two-arm pushing and two-arm thrusting. He achieved a total of 397.5 kg, with which he relegated Eugen Wiedmann , Germany, 397.5 kg and Willi Reinfrank , Germany, 395 kg, to places 2 and 3.

In 1923 Andreas Stadler became world champion in four-way combat in Vienna. This four-way battle consisted of one-armed snatch, one-armed thrusting, two-armed pushing, and two-armed thrusting. His total performance was 330 kg, with which he placed himself in front of his compatriots Willi Rosinek, 315 kg and Emil Kliment , 307.5 kg.

In 1924, Andreas Stadler represented the Austrian colors at the Olympic Games in Paris. Another pentathlon was held in Paris. Andreas Stadler achieved a featherweight of 385 kg (65-75-75-65-105) and only had to compete with the outstanding Italian Pierino Gabetti , who weighed 402.5 kg (65-77.5-82.5-72.5- 105) came, gave up. He won the silver medal with it.

In 1925 world championships in weightlifting were to take place again in Vienna. However, the international weightlifting association and the Austrian weightlifting association could not agree on which competition should take place. While the international weightlifting association insisted on the so-called Olympic three-way fight, the Austrian weightlifting association wanted to fight a four-way fight (one-armed tearing, one-armed pushing, two-arm pushing and two-arm pushing). Since there was no agreement, this world championship was canceled. The next major international competition for Andreas Stadler was therefore not due again until 1926, when he started at the German Fighting Games in Cologne. There a pentathlon took place in which Andreas Stadler scored 412.5 kg and thus finished second behind Eugen Mühlberger from Germany, 435 kg and in front of his fellow Viennese Franz Andrysek , 407.5 kg.

In 1928 Andreas Stadler started at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam. He achieved there in the Olympic three-way fight (pushing with both arms, tearing with both arms and pushing with both arms) 267.5 kg (72.5-80-115). With this achievement he came in 6th place. Olympic champion was Franz Andrysek, who referred Pierino Gabetti and Hans Wölpert from Germany to silver and bronze respectively.

The last major competition in which Franz Stadler took part was the Second Workers' Olympics in Vienna, which took place in 1931. A three-way battle was fought there, consisting of one-armed snatch, one-armed thrusting and two-armed thrusting. He achieved a feather weight of 262.5 kg (67.5-80-115) and thus took second place behind Auer from Austria, 272.5 kg (70-87.5-115).

He then ended his international weightlifting career. Stadler died in 1941 at the age of 44.
