Franz Andrysek
Franz Andrysek (born February 8, 1906 in Vienna ; † February 9, 1981 there ) was an Austrian weightlifter and Olympic featherweight champion in 1928 .
Career
Franz Andrysek grew up as the eldest child of a large family in Vienna and began lifting weights at the age of fourteen. He belonged to different clubs, the "Lohnfuhrwerker" Athleten-Klub (AK) Vienna , the KSK "Karl-Swoboda" Vienna and the KSC "Oswald" Vienna . In 1924 he became Austrian junior champion and took 3rd place in qualifying for the 1924 Olympic Games. He was then sent to the Olympic Games in Paris at the age of 18 . Since he made three unsuccessful attempts there in the two-armed pushing of the pentathlon, he remained unplaced.
In the years 1925 to 1927 there were no world or European championships, so that he was only able to participate in a major international championship again in 1928, that was the Olympic Games in Amsterdam . In Amsterdam he was in top form and won the gold medal in the Olympic featherweight triathlon with 287.5 kg (77.5-90-120) . In 1929 he was also the European featherweight champion in his hometown of Vienna.
He practiced his sport until 1934. In his career he had to take longer training breaks due to injuries or illnesses, which had a negative effect on his performance. After finishing his career he worked as a merchant and caretaker.
