Peter Wenzel (weightlifter)
Peter Wenzel (born April 15, 1952 in Mohlis near Meißen ) is a former German weightlifter .
Career
Peter Wenzel started weightlifting in Meissen when he was 14. Its discoverer and first trainer was Karl Bräuer. The blond athlete, who started for the SC Einheit Dresden / Meißen, soon had his first successes and in 1971 became GDR junior middleweight champion with the promising three-way performance of 420 kg and was used internationally the following year. His greatest achievements were winning the world middleweight championship in 1975 and the bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . Wenzel then continued to lift with many successes, but ended his career before the 1980 Olympic Games.
The trained locksmith trained to become a trainer.
Doping in the GDR
In 1979 and 1980 Wenzel received 7200 and 4785 mg Oral-Turinabol as part of the state-operated forced doping system of the GDR .
