El Sayed Mohammed Nosseir ( Arabic السيد محمد نصير, DMG as-Saiyid Muḥammad Nuṣair ; * August 31, 1905 in Tanta , Egypt ; † October 11, 1977 ) was an Egyptian weightlifter .

Career

Mohammed grew up in Tanta as the son of a farming family. At work he gained the strength that he would later need as a weight lifter. First he did gymnastics in the Tanta Secondary School before he started lifting weights at the age of 16, influenced by the best weightlifter in Egypt at the time, Abdel-Hakim Bik El Misri. Then he moved to the Ahli Club Cairo , where he made rapid progress under coach Mohamed Bassiouni and became Olympic champion in Amsterdam in 1928 . In 1930 and 1931 he stayed in Europe for a long time at the invitation of European weightlifting associations and showed excellent performances at many events. He also competed as a guest at the European Championships in 1930 and 1931.

Surprisingly, Egypt did not send weightlifters to the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932 . Nosseir then ended his active time and became a coach. His excellent work was then shown at the Olympic Games in 1936 and 1948 , where his protégés Mohamed Mesbah , Khadr Sayed El Touni , Ibrahim Shams and Mahmoud Fayad could become Olympic champions . He later made a name for himself as an official in the international weightlifting association.
