Petre Becheru (born May 16, 1960 in Drăgăneşti-Vlaşca , Teleorman County ) is a former Romanian weightlifter .

Career

Becheru's first international competition was the 1983 World Championships in Moscow, where he started in the light heavyweight category up to 82.5 kg. In the snatch he finished 9th with 155.0 kg, in the push he was unplaced. The winner was Jurik Wardanjan with 392.5 kg (180.0 / 212.5 kg), ahead of Assen Slatew with 390.0 kg in a duel.

With the Olympic boycott of the Eastern States, many medal favorites were banned from participating in Los Angeles in 1984, which is why Becheru won gold in his class up to 82.5 kg with a performance of 355.0 kg (155.0 / 200.0 kg). With this performance he would have finished 9th at the 1983 World Cup. In 1984 it was a comparatively weak field of participants. Since the 1984 Olympic Games were also the World Championships, Becheru was also able to secure his only three World Championship medals here.

At the 1985 World Championships in Södertälje, Becheru climbed to 360.0 kg (157.5 / 202.5 kg) and thus took 5th place. The winner was again Jurik Wardanyan ahead of Asen Slatew. At the 1986 World Cup in Sofia, Becheru achieved his absolute best. He tore 160.0 kg and pushed 210.0 kg, which was enough for 7th place in a duel. The winner was Slatew with 405.0 kg.

He finished the 1986 World Cup in Ostrau with 362.5 kg in sixth and his last World Cup in 1989 in Athens with 347.5 kg in ninth. In 1987 he was able to win bronze in a duel at the European Championships in Reims with 367.5 kg (160.0 / 207.5 kg).
