Tudor Casapu ( Moldovan-Cyrillic Тудор Касапу, Russian Фёдор Михайлович Касапу , Fyodor Kassapu , including: Fedor (Mikhailovich) Kasapu * 18th September 1963 in Mingir , Hînceşti District , Republic of Moldova ) is a former Soviet-Moldovan weightlifter and Olympic champion.

Athletic career

Casapu first drew attention to himself in 1986 when he took second place in the Soviet championships in lightweight up to 67.5 kg with a duel of 330.0 kg (150.0 / 180.0 kg). Although in 1988 and 1989 he was twice the Soviet middleweight champion up to 75 kg body weight with a performance of 360.0 kg (157.5 / 202.5 kg) and 350.0 kg (152.5 / 197.5 kg) , he was not used for the 1988 Olympic Games or the 1989 World Cup.

Thus Casapu was able to win an international title for the first time at the 1990 World Cup in Budapest. With 360.0 kg (157.5 / 202.5 kg) he won all three gold medals in the middleweight division. The runner-up Andrei Socaci achieved with 345.0 kg 15.0 kg less than Casapu.

In 1991, Casapus achieved a performance of 345.0 kg at the European Championships in Władysławowo for third place, as did the 342.5 kg lifted at the World Championships in Donaueschingen . At the 1992 Olympic Games, Casapu, who competed here for the United Team , increased his performance again to 357.5 kg (155.0 / 202.5 kg) and thus won Olympic gold in front of the Cuban Pablo Lara , who lifted the same load, but was 250 grams heavier.

In 1993 Casapu played his first world championship for his native Moldova. In the newly created weight class up to 76 kg, he tore 150.0 kg, but could not bring in a valid attempt in the push and thus remained unplaced in the duel. After that, Casapu only returned to the European Championship in Warsaw in 1995 . After 150.0 kg in the snatch, he was again unplaced in the push. Furthermore, Casapu was tested positive for the anabolic steroid Mesterolone and received a lifelong ban from the world association.
