Sa Jae-hyouk (Sa Jae-hyuk, born January 29, 1985 in Hongcheon ) is a South Korean weightlifter . He became an Olympic middleweight champion in 2008 .

Career

Sa Jae-hyuk is from Hongcheon in Gangwon-do Province in South Korea . He lives there and began lifting weights as a teenager, which is currently his profession.

He made his debut on the international weightlifting stage in 2005 at the Junior World Championships in Busan . He started there in the lightweight and with a duel performance of 324 kg (145-179) won the world title ahead of the Turk Mete Binay , 323 kg a. Yao Yuewei from China , 316 kg.

In 2007 he started in Chiang Mai, Thailand for the first time at a world championship for seniors. He had meanwhile grown into the middleweight division and achieved 353 kg (153-200). With this performance he finished 5th and won a bronze medal in the World Championship with his shock performance of 200 kg.

The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing became the highlight of Sa Jae-hyuk's career so far . He succeeded there as the first foreign weightlifter to interrupt the winning streak of domestic Chinese weightlifters. He managed it in the middleweight duel 366 kg (163-203) and won the gold medal in front of the Chinese Li Hongli , who also came to 366 kg, but was a little heavier than Sa. He owed this victory primarily to his outstanding performance in pushing with 203 kg, with which he caught up with a gap of 5 kg after the tear on Li.

At the 2009 World Championships in Goyang / South Korea Sa Jae-hyuk achieved a middleweight weight of 365 kg (160-205). Although he came up to his duel performance from the 2008 Olympic Games up to 1 kg, this performance was only enough for 4th place. The winner and world champion was the outstanding Chinese Lu Xiaojun , who weighed 378 kg (174-204). But Sa had the satisfaction of winning the world championship gold medal in pushing with 205 kg .
