Marek Gołąb (born May 7, 1940 in Zakliczyn near Brzesko , † October 6, 2017 in Wrocław ) was a Polish weightlifter .

Life

Gołąb trained as a mechanic and attended the technical center in Wroclaw . As a teenager, he first operational Athletics and among other things he achieved the shot put widths of up to 14.50 m. As a track and field athlete he started for LZS Bytom . After discovering his talent for weightlifting , he moved to Śląsk Wrocław , the club he was a member of from 1957 to 1973. There he became a world-class weightlifter thanks to his trainer Klemens Roguski. Gołąb was a member of the Polish weightlifting team from 1962 to 1972 and achieved many successes. The greatest success of the 1.78 m tall and approx. 90 kg heavy athlete was winning the Olympic bronze medal in Mexico City in 1968 . After his playing days, he followed the path of many former athletes. He became a coach and held this post from 1972 to 1988 at WKS Śląsk Wrocław and from 1989 in the Polish Weightlifting Association.
