Vladimir Golovanov (1964)

Wladimir Semjonowitsch Golowanow ( Russian Владимир Семёнович Голованов ; born November 29, 1938 , † August 2, 2003 ) was a Soviet weightlifter and Olympic champion in 1964 .

Career

In the mid-1960s, the extremely strong soldier Vladimir Golovanov, who started for the army sports club Khabarovsk , prevailed against his competitors in the middle-heavyweight class (up to 90 kg body weight at that time) in the Soviet Union . In 1963 he had to admit defeat to Eduard Browko , but 1964 was his big year. He was very well prepared by his trainer Arkady Vorobyov , European and Olympic champion . Vladimir Golovanov created the conditions for his victories through his extraordinary strength in pushing, with which he could also compensate for a small weakness in pushing. After 1965 he had increasing weight problems in the 90 kg class. After the introduction of the heavy weight class, up to 110 kg body weight, he again achieved excellent results in this new class.
