history
Originally the place was called Dunaiz and belonged to the Benedictines in Tyniec from 1086-1125 . In 1215 the Opatkowice settlement was established there. In the first half of the 14th century, the place had a market square, an inn and a mill. In 1558 Opatkowice was bought by Wawrzyniec Spytko Jordan, who founded the town of Zakliczyn under German law. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the town was under the influence of the Polish brothers from neighboring Lusławice , who had a printing shop here.
During the first partition of Poland in 1772 Zakliczyn became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).
In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Zakliczyn came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
In 1934 the place lost its town charter, but got it back in 2005. Between 1954 and 1972 Zakliczyn belonged to the Gromada Zakliczyn (Powiat Brzeski) .
From 1975 to 1998 Zakliczyn was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship .
