ˈbʒɛskɔ ] is a town in the powiat Brzeski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with a little over 36,300 inhabitants.
Brzesko [geography
Brzesko is located about 48 km east of Kraków and 28 km west of Tarnów . The city lies on the banks of the Uszwica River .
history
The area around the city of Brzesko was already around 8300 to 4500 BC. Settled. Traces found in the ground indicate that in the 5th century BC Agriculture was practiced and that the area was a cultural center.
In the early Middle Ages, there was a castle on a hill near Brzesko. It served to defend the area that belonged to the Wislan state . The castle was abandoned in the 9th or 10th century.
The town charter was awarded in 1385 to Brzesko Magdeburg Law . It remained a small, privately owned town until the 17th century. In 1657 the place was largely destroyed by the Seven Years' War .
In 1772 the place came under the rule of Austria. In 1845 Johannes Götz (later Götz von Okocim ) from Langenenslingen (Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen) founded a brewery. In 1850 Brzesko became the seat of the district .
On September 5, 1939, German troops occupied the city. In 1941 a ghetto was established in which around 6,000 Jews had to live. The Red Army reached the place on January 19, 1945 .
There was a development in housing construction in the 1960s through the housing association. New schools were set up, including for electromechanics. One of these schools was housed in Götz Castle (Pałac Goetza). In 1983 the new hospital was put into operation.
From 1975 to 1998 Brzesko was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship .

Economy and Transport
DK 4 runs through Brzesko . In the city, the DK 75 meets the DK4. They run through the city on a common route. Voivodeship Road 768 ( Droga wojewódzka 768 ) also begins in the city . The railway line from Kraków to Przemyśl on the border with Ukraine runs through Bzesko.
Okocim brewery
The brewery is still one of the city's major commercial operations. The Okocim settlement developed around its location in the south of the city on the road to Okocim . The brewery's best-known brand is also called Okocim .
