The Gmina Brzesko ( ˈbʒɛskɔ ]) is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Brzeski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the city of the same name with around 17,000 inhabitants.
[geography
The municipality is located about 40 km east of Kraków and 25 km west of Tarnów . The Uszwica River is one of the waters .
The municipality has an area of 102.57 km², 67 percent of which is used for agriculture and 18 percent for forestry.
history
From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the Tarnów Voivodeship .

The town that gives it its name and nine school departments (sołectwa) belong to the urban and rural community of Brzesko :
Bucze , Jadowniki , Jasień , Mokrzyska , Okocim , Poreba Spytkowska , Sterkowiec , Szczepanów and Wokowice .
Economy and Transport
The state roads DK 4 and DK 75 run through the municipality and its main town . The voivodship road DW 768 begins in the city.
The railway line from Kraków to Przemyśl on the border with Ukraine runs through Brzesko.
education
The community has 14 kindergartens, eleven elementary schools, four middle schools, two school centers with elementary and middle schools and one non-state university. (As of 2008)
