Daniel Senet (born June 26, 1953 ) is a retired French weightlifter .

Athletic career

Senet started for the first time in 1974 at the World Championships in Manila in the featherweight up to 60 kg. Here he reached eighth place with 242.5 kg (110.0 / 132.5 kg). He also competed in featherweight at the 1975 World Cup in Moscow and increased to 257.5 kg (115.0 / 142.5 kg). The Bulgarian Georgi Todorow was first with 285.0 kg.

For the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , Senet then switched to the lightweight up to 67.5 kg, in which he competed for the rest of his career. With an increase to 300.0 kg (135.0 / 165.0 kg) he reached the silver medal behind Petro Korol , who lifted 305.0 kg. The Olympic Games also represented the 1976 World Championships, so Senet also won gold in the snatch and silver in a duel.

At the 1977 World Championships in Stuttgart , after 135.0 kg in the snatch, he could not bring in a valid attempt in the push and thus did not achieve a duel. However, his performance in the snatch was enough for the silver medal. At the 1979 World Cup in Saloniki , too , his relatively poor performance in pushing prevented a better placement. After he managed 142.5 kg in the snatch and thus won bronze in this sub-discipline, he pushed 170.0 kg and achieved 312.5 kg in a duel, which also meant bronze here. The first-placed Janko Russew tore only 2.5 kg more with 145.0 kg, but was able to extend his lead considerably with 187.5 kg and thus 332.5 kg. Joachim Kunz came second with 325.0 kg.

At his second Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 , Senet reached fourth place. With an output of 322.5 kg (147.5 / 175.0 kg) he was able to win the silver medal in the snatch again, but the competition ultimately pushed him down from the medal ranks. The winner was again Russew with 342.5 kg (147.5 / 195.0 kg).

Senet played his last world championship in 1981 in his own country in Lille . Here he secured gold with 150.0 kg in the snatch and bronze with 320.0 kg (150.0 / 170.0 kg) in a duel. This World Cup also represented the European Championship in 1981, which also made him third in the European Championship and European Champion in the tear.
