Igor Ivanovich Nikitin ( Russian Игорь Иванович Никитин ; born February 29, 1952 in Komsomolsk am Amur ) is a former Soviet weightlifter .
Career
Nikitin achieved a podium place for the first time at the Soviet championships in 1977 in the 1st heavyweight up to 100 kg. He lifted 375.0 kg (165.0 / 210.0 kg) and was third behind Anatoli Koslow with 387.5 kg and Malyar with 375.0 kg, but the lower body weight. Internationally he was then used for the first time at the European Championships in 1978, where he took second place with 362.5 kg (162.5 / 200.0 kg) behind Sergei Arakelow with 387.5 kg.
With first place in 1980 at the Soviet championships, with a performance of 397.5 kg (181.5 / 217.5 kg), Nikitin was one of the title favorites for the Olympic Games in Moscow . After he was able to make all three attempts up to 177.5 kg in the snatch, he started the competition in the push with a valid 210.0 kg. He increased over 215.0 kg to 220.0 kg, which he needed for a duel of 397.5 kg to beat Ota Zaremba , who achieved 392.5 kg (180.0 / 215.0 kg), but failed at the load. 217.5 kg and thus 395.0 kg in a duel would not have been enough, since Nikitin was the heavier of the two athletes with 99.25 kg to 99.15 kg, and the body weight decides with the same lifted load. Thus he won Olympic silver and since the games were also the world championships for this year, he was also runner-up in snatch and duel. He won bronze in the push.
After the 1980 Olympic Games, Nikitin no longer competed internationally. Igor Nikitin set two world records in the class up to 100 kg during his active time. In the snatch he beat Viktor Naniev's world record by 0.5 kg with 183.0 kg in 1980 and in a duel he improved Anatoly Koslow's record from 387.5 kg to 390 kg in 1978.
