Julian Creus (born June 30, 1917 in Liverpool , † September 9, 1992 in Granville , New South Wales , Australia ) was a British weightlifter .

Career

Julian Creus started lifting weights at the age of 17. At the time he was working in a shipyard, where his training was suffering from the severity of the work. In addition, his training diligence was often slowed down by serious accidents at work.

It was only after 1945 that he succeeded in gaining a top position in his sport in England. He was very light in body weight and could start in bantamweight or featherweight . In 1948, at the age of 31, he qualified for a start at the Olympic Games in London. He started there in bantamweight and won the silver medal in the Olympic three-way fight with 297.5 kg (82.5-95-120) .

In 1950 Julian Creus took part in the British Empire Games in Auckland / New Zealand. He took second place in featherweight with a performance of 670 lbs (84-97-122 = 303 kg) behind Koh Eng Tong from Malaya, 685 lbs (93-96-122 = 311 kg). In the same year he succeeded in the world championship in Paris in the featherweight with 305 kg (87.5-95-122.5) to occupy the 3rd place. In the European championship he even came in 2nd place.

In 1951 the world championship took place in Milan. Julian Creus was also there in the featherweight at the start. He achieved an OD 302.5 kg (87.5-92.5-122.5) and with this performance took 3rd place in the World Championship and 2nd place in the European Championship.

In 1952 he qualified again for participation in the Olympic Games in Helsinki. There he achieved a featherweight OD 305 kg (87.5-95-122.5). With this performance he only came in 9th place in Helsinki because the performance of the other top lifters had risen sharply worldwide.

In the years 1953 to 1955 Julian Creus no longer started in international championships and was even inactive for two years. In 1956, however, he was tempted to take part in the Olympic Games a third time, especially since they were held in Melbourne, Australia. He therefore trained hard again and was again British featherweight champion in 1956 with a performance of 310 kg (87.5-100-122.5) in the OD. In Melbourne he achieved a featherweight 307.5 kg (90-95-122.5) and took an honorable 11th place with this performance.

In 1960 Julian Creus decided to move to Australia, where he lived until 1992.
