Gerónimo Abarca de Bolea y Portugal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerónimo Abarca de Bolea y Portugal († after 1547 in Valladolid ) was an Aragonese nobleman and historian living in the first half of the 16th century .

Abarca de Bolea, whose family had married into the Portuguese royal family, withdrew to his estate in Cadrete due to his poor health and wrote a history of the Kingdom of Aragón in Latin . However, he could not complete it and it was never published. This historical account was an important source for Jeronimo Zurita , who praised its reliability in particular and said that Abarca could have finished his work had no further treatment of this topic been necessary. Abarca died after 1547 in Valladolid, where he had resided as the Aragonese ambassador in the Spanish part of the empire of Emperor Charles V.
