Career
Alexander Saitschikow began lifting weights as a teenager in Kazakhstan. He is a student and started his international weightlifting career at the Junior World Championships (U 18) in Chiang Mai (Thailand) in 2009. He came in the light heavyweight with 316 kg (140-176) on the 2nd place. In June 2011 he competed in the middle heavyweight division of the Junior World Championships (U 20) in Penang . He achieved there in a duel 371 kg (165-206) and won a bronze medal. At the Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen he achieved in the middle heavyweight duel 360 kg (162-198). This achievement reached 7th place.
Somewhat surprisingly, Alexander Saitschikow from the Kazakh Weightlifting Association was used in the heavyweight division at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, although he was far too light for this weight class with a body weight of just over 94 kg. He achieved 360 kg (155-205) in a duel in London and thus reached 12th place.
In June 2013 he was in Astana with 385 kg (175-210) Asian middle heavyweight champion in front of the Chinese Zhang Shengguo, who came to 374 kg (168-206). In July 2013, Alexander Saitschikow took part in the Universiade in Kazan. He achieved there in the middle heavyweight in a duel 375 kg (168-207). With this performance he took second place behind the Russian Alexander Ivanov, who weighed 395 kg (181-214). When his doping sample was subsequently checked, it turned out that he had been doped with stanozolol . He was then banned from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) from June 24, 2013 to June 24, 2015 for doping. His result at the Universiade in Kazan was canceled.
After his doping ban he started in November 2015 at the World Championships in Houston. He achieved there in the heavyweight duel 421 kg (191-230) and became world champion in a duel with this performance. With his individual performances, he won a World Cup silver medal in both snatch and push.
