Gerard Gratton

Gerard Gratton (born August 29, 1927 in Montreal , † July 28, 1963 there ) was a Canadian weightlifter .

Career

The French-Canadian Gerard Gratton grew up in Montreal, attended high school there and began lifting weights in 1945. In 1948 he was a middleweight at 350 kilograms in the Olympic three-way battle. In 1949 he was the first Canadian middleweight champion with 375 kilograms. He competed in many competitions in Canada and the USA , but only once in Europe , at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki , and won the silver medal in the middleweight division there. Gerard Gratton resigned after 1959 and earned his living as an employee in Montreal.

  • 1956, 1st place , North America. Meistersch., Ls, with 412.5 kg, before Y. Gagnon, Canada, 322.5 kg;
  • 1958, 4th place , British Empire and Commonwealth Games, Ls, with 370 kg, behind Philipp Caira, Scotland , 397.5 kg, Silvain Blackman, Barbados , 385 kg and Kestell, South Africa, 385 kg;
  • 1959, 1st place , North America. Master class Ms, at 395 kg, before R. Prevost, Canada, 387.5 kg

Gerard Gratton has won the Canadian championship in middle, light and middle heavyweight eight times.
