Oscar Osthoff
Oscar Paul Osthoff (born March 23, 1883 in Milwaukee , † December 9, 1950 in Indianapolis ) was an American weightlifter and swimmer .
At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis , he won the gold medal in the one-armed all-around weightlifting. In this competition ten different exercises had to be completed with one arm, which were evaluated by the judges. In two-armed weightlifting, in which only the lifted weight counted, Osthoff came second behind the Greek Perikles Kakousis .
Despite his Olympic medals, Osthoff was far better known as a swimmer. He swam in short distance races for the Milwaukee AC and the University of Wisconsin . In 1907 he set a new record in the championships of colleges. In 1923 he won the Wisconsin State Championships . In addition to his engineering career , he also coached football and track and field teams at Washington State University .
