Aurimas Didžbalis (born June 13, 1991 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian weightlifter .

Life

Didžbalis grew in the village Pamargiai in the municipality of Marijampolė on. His first coach was Alvydas Kirkliauskas in Marijampolė . His younger brother Robertas is also a weight lifter and is trained in Marijampolė.

Aurimas Didžbalis completed her bachelor's degree and in 2015 was a master's degree in distance learning in sports education at the Klaipėda Faculty of Education . He became the best athlete at Klaipėdos universitetas .

successes

Didžbalis was the 2010 European Junior Champion and World Champion. In the same year he also took part in the active world championships for the first time and reached eighth place in the class up to 94 kg. In 2011 he won bronze in the duel and jerk and gold in snatch at the European Championships . In the Universiade 2011 he won silver and in the 2011 World Championships he finished tenth. In 2012 he was runner- up at the European Championships . However, he was tested positive for dehydrochloromethyltestosterone during the doping control , disqualified and banned for two years. After his suspension, Didžbalis won bronze in a duel and silver in snatch at the 2014 World Championships . In 2015 he became European champion . Didžbalis won bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio (class up to 94 kg). It was the first Olympic medal in heavy athletics for Lithuania. At the end of 2016, he was named Lithuania's Sportsman of the Year .

In December 2017 he became vice world champion .
